Sarah's Favorite Holiday Things
We never stop lit-thinking even through winter break!
Welcome to From the Couch, where we open up discussions about all things media.
Now that Sarah is on break, she’s ready to think about wrapping herself in blankets and watching her favorite holiday films. Here are her top four holiday films (and where you can stream them):
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) - I know, I know. Alicia already did this one. But I went to see this in the theater with my parents and sisters in 1992 and it has been a family tradition ever since. There is a reason Alicia and I were both excited to do a podcast episode on this movie two years ago. (You can watch this one on Disney+)
White Christmas (1954) - This movie was a family tradition for my dad and his family, and this is one of the first movies my family owned when my dad bought our first VCR. My sisters and I were raised singing along to “Sisters,” and when I found out that Dr. Doug Ross (of ER) was the nephew of Betty, I knew that George Clooney was an actor worth following. (Enjoy it on Netflix.)
Elf (2003) - It took a while for this one to grow on me, as I’m not usually one for Santa movies, but I can’t help but stop to watch this every time I see it on a television anywhere. Plus, I’m a huge fan of Zooey Deschanel and Will Farrell’s Buddy is so beautifully full of childlike wonder, that it draws me in every time. It’s a good reminder to look for the good this holiday season. (Watch it on Max or Hulu)
Love Hard (2021) - I’m not one for Hallmark movies, but last year my husband and I decided to give this Netflix feature a shot. It was a perfect mix of sweet and snark and we both thoroughly enjoyed this anti-Hallmark rom-com. Plus, it might have the most delightful version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” ever created. (Watch it on Netflix)

I’ll have to watch Love Hard ❤️
Elf definitely got better after multiple rewatches.
