During Season 2 of the podcast, we recorded an episode discussing the first five seasons of the NBC drama, This Is Us. (That episode can be found here.) Now that the show has come to its long-planned conclusion, we are looking toward a discussion of the entire series in an upcoming episode for our third season. After finishing the final episode with the Pearson family, what are your thoughts on the entire series? What themes or character growth were most influential to you? What questions do you have for us as we process our own thoughts and feelings about the end of the Pearson television era?
Note: Alicia and Sarah will only jump on this thread after we have had a chance to watch the episode ourselves, which might take a couple of days. But before then, discuss away.
We've also discussed one of the main themes of the show as "hope in the face of grief." Where do we consistently see hope in the face of grief? What other themes have you seen throughout the six seasons?
One of the first things that Alicia and I have talked about is brilliant story structure of the entire series. How do you think the story structure enhanced your understanding of the story of the Pearson family? Sometimes my students struggle with a deliniated storyline. Did it in any way make it more difficult for you to watch or understand?
